Dangerous Men poster
USA  ·  2005  ·  79 min  ·  Dir. John S. Rad
With Melody Wiggins, Keiran Mulroney, Michael Gradilone

Twenty-six years in the making, John S. Rad's magnum opus follows Mina — a woman who, after watching her fiancé die on a California beach, vows revenge on every predatory man she encounters. Meanwhile, a detective investigates from what appears to be an entirely different film. Elliptical, inexplicable, utterly sincere. The perfect opening shot.

Red Rock West poster
USA  ·  1993  ·  98 min  ·  Dir. John Dahl
With Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper, Lara Flynn Boyle

A drifter rolls into the tiny Wyoming town of Red Rock looking for work and is immediately mistaken for a hitman by the local bar owner. John Dahl's sleek neo-noir crackles with wrong-place, wrong-time dread, and Cage — haunted, broke, almost doing the right thing — has never been more watchably trapped.

Drive Angry poster
USA  ·  2011  ·  104 min  ·  Dir. Patrick Lussier
With Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner

A man escapes from Hell — literally — to stop a cult from sacrificing his granddaughter. Cage drives fast cars, shoots people, and never once removes his sunglasses. One of the great Saturday night movies ever made.

A ventriloquist's dummy begins to take control of its owner in Attenborough's deeply unsettling psychological thriller. Hopkins is terrifyingly good. Our closing night selection — leave the lights on for the drive back through the mountains.

The Rio Rando Grand Theatre

Built in 1889 by a silver-tongued prospector who never found gold but somehow built the most beautiful room in the Sierra Nevada, The Rio Rando Grand Theatre is a fully restored Victorian jewel box — hand-painted ceilings, red velvet balconies, and a proscenium arch that makes every frame look like a painting. There is no better place in California to watch a movie.
